Records returned by a search are, by default, displayed in a brief format for ease of browsing.
The brief display for journal articles includes article title, author(s),
journal title, year, volume, part and page numbers. If the record includes an abstract, it will also display Abstract available.Conference records include paper title, authors, title of conference proceedings, year, volume or number of conference and page numbers. Open Access records can be identified by the inclusion of the Open Access symbol, .
It is possible to expand the record detail on the results page by clicking the show more record detail button:
This option adds the publisher, frequency, and abstract to the results. View the brief display again by clicking the show less record detail button:
Records are displayed 25 to a page. Use the Next and Previous buttons, or First and Last buttons, to navigate through the screens.
Your search terms are displayed at the top of each search results summary page along with details of the sort order, e.g.
The default order in which the records are presented is reverse date (i.e. most recent first). You can change this to date (i.e. oldest first) or title (results are sorted alphabetically by article/paper title, excluding common words such as the, an, a etc.) by selecting the appropriate option from the pull-down menu and then using the Re-sort button. If your result list includes more than 500 records the results cannot be sorted.
Click the record title to view the full record of any item. Use the Next button and Previous button to navigate through results. To return to the brief record display, select the Brief Records button.
Use the checkbox next to the record number to tag (and untag) a selection of records to send to an email account or download as a text file.
If you wish to email only some of the records in your results list, you must tag them first by using the checkbox at the left hand side of the records to tick the ones you wish to select. Click on the Email Records button at the top or bottom of the screen and enter your email address in the box provided. You are given the option to email the records in one of two formats: long labels and short labels. Records with short labels contain abbreviated two-letter fieldnames e.g. AU for Author(s), TI for Article Title and so on. Such records look like this:
AU: Tejwani, G. A. TI: Opioid involvement in smoking behavior JT: EUROPEAN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY IS: 0924-977X PD: 2000 IU: VOL 10; NUMBER ; SUPP/3 PG: 120 FQ: Quarterly: 4 issues per year PB: ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV PP: Netherlands LA: English DC: 616.8 DC: 615.1 LC: RC SM: 3829.765350 ID: RN100229018
Records with short labels may be easier to import into reference management software such as EndNote and BookWhere. (Note: we have created a filter for use with EndNote, see the Z39.50 Access page for further information and to download the filter.)
Records with long labels contain full-length fieldnames e.g. Author(s), Article Title etc. Such records look like this:
Author(s): Tejwani, G. A. Article Title: Opioid involvement in smoking behavior Journal Title: EUROPEAN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY ISSN: 0924-977X Year: 2000 Volume/Issue: VOL 10; NUMBER ; SUPP/3 Page(s): 120 Frequency: Quarterly: 4 issues per year Publisher: Netherlands : ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV Language: English Dewey Class: 616.8 615.1 LC Class: RC BLDSC shelfmark: 3829.765350 ZETOC ID: RN100229018
Choose which format you would like your records in by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. You may also change the subject of the email from the default 'ZETOC records' if you wish. If you tagged some records, you will be given the option to email just those that you have tagged or all the records from your search (to a maximum of 500). If you did not tag any records the email will automatically contain all the records from your search (to a maximum of 500). Now select the Email Records button and the records will be sent.
You can download your search results and save them to disk as a plain text file which can then be imported into bibliographic software. If you wish to download only some of the records, you must tag them first by selecting the checkbox at the left hand side of the records so they have ticks in them. (To untag a record select the checkbox again). Click on the Download button at the top or bottom of the screen.
