Forthcoming Enhancements

9 Jul 2001

MIMAS, in collaboration with The British Library, are in the process of enhancing the current Zetoc Service and the following enhancements are on schedule to be implementated by the start of the 2001/2002 academic year:

  1. Direct linking from Zetoc Alert to records within the Zetoc Service - offering access to the full record from a reference in your email Alert message.
  2. A subject/author search facility within Zetoc Alert - allowing you to receive any new hits from the daily update by email.
  3. Document Ordering direct from the British Library - initially supporting Copyright Fee Paid orders, but support for Inter-Library Loan is in development.

The first of these, the direct linking, will be implemented on the night of Friday 13th July.

Please note that the renewal period for Alerts has been increased to 12 months - following requests from users at the recent MIMAS Open Forum (next year's will be on June 27th 2002 - make a note now!).

The MIMAS work has been funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee of the Higher and Further Education Funding Councils. Additional enhancements in the Document Ordering area will arise from our participation in the DNER 'Join-Up' Programme.

Remember: the Zetoc Service is available free of charge to JISC-sponsored UK further and higher education institutions. Zetoc is also available to the Research Councils, Irish higher education institutions and other UK FE and HE institutions upon payment of an annual fee. The database contains details of approximately 20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per year. With almost 16 million article and conference records, the database covers every imaginable subject in science, technology, medicine, engineering, business, law, finance and the humanities. Coverage is from 1993 to date and is updated daily. All items are guaranteed to be available from the British Library.
