Search Terms/Sort Order

Your search terms are given at the top of each display page along with details of the sort order, e.g.

search terms and sort order

The default order in which the records are presented is reverse date (i.e. most recent first). You can change this to date (i.e. oldest first) or title (results are sorted alphabetically by article/paper title, excluding common words such as the, an, a etc.) by selecting the appropriate option from the pull-down menu and then select the Re-sort button. When you have found more than 500 records the results are unsorted as to sort them would be slow.

Tagging Records

You may select the checkbox next to the record number to tag (and untag) a selection of records to send to an email account or download as a text file.

Emailing records

It is possible to email your search results to an email account. If you wish to email only some of the records, you must tag them first by selecting the checkbox at the left hand side of the records so they have ticks in them. (To untag a record select the checkbox again.) Then select the Email Records button at the top or bottom of the screen. Enter your email address in the box provided. You are given the option to email the records in one of two formats: Long labels and Short labels. Records with Short labels contain abbreviated two-letter fieldnames e.g. AU for Author(s), TI for Article Title and so on. Such records look like this:

	AU: Tejwani, G. A.
TI: Opioid involvement in smoking behavior
	JT: EUROPEAN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY
	IS: 0924-977X
	PD: 2000
	IU: VOL 10; NUMBER ; SUPP/3
	PG: 120
FQ: Quarterly: 4 issues per year
	PB: ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV
	PP: Netherlands
	LA: English
	DC: 616.8
	LC: RC
	SM: 3829.765350
	ID: RN100229018

Records with Long labels contain full-length fieldnames e.g. Author(s), Article Title etc. Such records look like this:

	Author(s): Tejwani, G. A.
Article Title: Opioid involvement in smoking behavior

	Journal Title: EUROPEAN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY
	ISSN: 0924-977X

Choose which format you would like your records in by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. You may also change the subject of the email from the default 'ZETOC records' if you wish. If you tagged some records, you will be given the option to email just those that you have tagged or all the records from your search (to a maximum of 500). If you did not tag any records the email will automatically contain all the records from your search (to a maximum of 500). Now select the Email Records button and the records will be sent. If you fail to receive your records, contact the Zetoc Helpdesk. Email errors mean some records are returned to us and we may have your file.

Downloading records

It is possible to download your search results and save them to disk as a plain text file which can then be imported into reference management software. See the Z39.50 Access page for further information about Z39.50 connections for bibliographic software.

If you wish to download only some of the records, you must tag them first by selecting the checkbox at the left hand side of the records so they have ticks in them. Editing a Search

Once you have seen the results found by your search you may wish to change the search to improve the results, perhaps by adding more search terms or limiting by date. Your current search terms are highlighted at the top of each display screen. Select these search terms and you will be presented with your original search to edit and run.
