Customising Zetoc for Use in Your Institution

OpenURL Resolver Option

Zetoc gives users the option to look for further information about a journal article or conference proceeding, with the aim of providing access to the full text of the article, where it is available electronically. A link at the bottom of the full record display page will take the user to a default 'More Information' page. The page that the user links to depends upon the institution that they are from. If your institution has its own OpenURL Resolver we can link to this. For those users from institutions that do not have a link resolver, we provide a default option with links to: Copac, a union catalogue enabling users to locate the journal in major UK research libraries, the British Library and the National Libraries of Scotland and Wales; and to Google Scholar.

Interlibrary Loan / Document Supply Options

Zetoc gives users the option to order an article or paper via inter-library loan (ILL). A link at the bottom of the full record display page will take the user to an ILL page where they will be able to get assistance in making an ILL request.

Institutions have the option to customise the ILL page. Zetoc provides two main options for institutions to choose from, or a third default option that is used if an institution does not wish to submit any preferences.

Setting up the inter-library loan facility within Zetoc

Institutions should send an email to the Zetoc helpdesk. The information that should be provided, and additional information that may be included, will depend upon the option that the institution has selected from those given below and how much information the institution wishes the user to be provided with.

If at any time an institution wishes to change their option or the information on their ILL page, they should contact the Zetoc helpdesk.

In order to customise the ILL page, institutions are asked to select an option from the two options given below:

Inter-Library Loan Form Option

Selecting this option means that a user from your institution will be able to create a printable form that can be used as an ILL request form. It will include the user's personal details, the details of the item required and a full copyright declaration. The form can be signed and dated by the user and taken or sent to the ILL department, together with the appropriate payment.

To assist libraries, every order will include a unique order number, but please note that Zetoc does not keep records of these orders.

For this option, the institution is asked to provide: The Institution may also wish to provide:

See example page for the ILL Form Option

Local Option

This option should be selected if the institution wishes the user to follow the ILL instructions given on the institution's own website.

Selecting this option means that the user will be able to see the bibliographic details of the item they wish to request and will have a link to the ILL service provided by their own institution. The amount of information provided on this page will depend upon the preferences of the individual institution. It may, for example, include links to the Library's catalogue.

For this option, the Institution is required to provide: The Institution may also wish to provide: See example page for the Local Option

Default Option

If the institution does not wish to adopt either the inter-library loan form option or the local option, then the user will be presented with a default page that simply shows details of the item required. This page can be printed out to assist the user in making an ILL request.
